Off Road – Learn To Ride

For new riders! We provide the skills you need to start riding a dirtbike. Perfect for kids, teens, adults, or even families and groups. You will earn a safety card which is required in many ORV areas. At the end of the course students will have a solid understanding of the techniques an off road rider must use to stay safe, act responsibly and, most importantly, HAVE FUN!

No experience is needed and you can rent a school dirtbike. Perfect for kids, families, and adults. Get a completion card required for ORV parks in some areas.

The LTR course is a beginner level course for anyone 6 years and older. You'll learn the basic skills for riding a dirtbike:

  • starting
  • straight line riding
  • stopping
  • shifting gears
  • turning
  • avoiding hazards

After the basics the course introduces key off road techniques including standing and posture, counterweighting, u-turns, hills, and basic group riding. For younger riders we put a focus on responsible riding strategies and good decision making which prevents injuries.

A progression of skills

The school begins with the basics: sitting on the motorcycle, location and operation of the controls and straight line riding. As students progress, they learn how to ride in circles, make sharp turns and how to ride on hills.

Besides learning new skills, students also discuss responsible riding practices including risk management and environmental awareness. There are additional exercises available should the students progress their skills quickly.

How much time do we get to ride?

Your entire class time is spent on the course with plenty of hands-on instruction and real-world riding situations. Total class time for the school can vary from four to six hours depending on weather, breaks and class size and the abilities of the students.

How old do I have to be to take an off-road course?

Students as young as six years of age are allowed to enroll in the LTR course. The LTR and Off Road 101 courses are great for adults to learn how to ride off road motorcycles.

Do I need my own motorcycle?

To take the LTR course you do not need to have your own motorcycle. We have motorcycles available for rent during the course. If you own or have a bike and wish to use it during the course you are welcome to bring it with you. It will need to pass a basic safety inspection before the riding day begins.

Minimum Course Requirements:

  • Be able to balance a two wheeled vehicle (able to ride a bicycle)
  • A parental permission form if under the age of 18
  • Children 12 and under must have a parent, guardian, or responsible adult present during the course

"Do you have kids classes?"

With that one question began the journey that has become PSSOR today.

A graduate from one of our street courses called our office and told us the story of their kids wanting to get dirtbikes. They weren't the first to ask the question, but they would be the first to get a "yes" answer.

In a short time we had a training location leased and we had an MSF DirtBike School instructor trainer scheduled to help us get dirtbike training up and running.

Now, nearly 10 years later, PSSOR has evolved from that first curriculum into an internationally recognized school that provides public access training for kids, teens, and adults as well as specialty training programs for military and police.
